Join us for the film screening and discussion of Vingwengwe: Rhythm of the Fipa — a powerful documentary by Director Rod Kirkman and Producer Dr. Johann Buis.
This special evening invites you to experience a living tradition of rhythm, memory, and resistance carried forward by the Fipa people of western Tanzania. Vingwengwe uncovers a centuries-old musical practice — a clay pot and a wooden stool transformed into instruments of identity, storytelling, and survival.
Kirkman, an award-winning Los Angeles–based filmmaker, was first introduced to this tradition more than twenty years ago through Dr. Buis’s teaching.…
